Taiwan Power Company (Taipower) is responsible for supplying electricity across Taiwan, providing essential infrastructure for everyday life. To ensure a stable and safe power supply, Taipower continuously inspects and replaces equipment across its generation, transmission, and distribution systems—from familiar streetside transformer boxes, wooden crossarms and insulators on utility poles, to less visible but critical infrastructure such as generating units and high-voltage equipment.
Once retired, these materials and components are sent to Taipower’s material warehouses for sorting and processing. Some can re-enter established recycling systems, while others must be treated as waste.
The Taipower Retired Assets Regeneration Project initiative uses design to redefine retired assets once regarded as waste as resources, transforming them into furniture, building materials, art installations, and other applications that return to use within Taipower spaces.
Beyond extending the life of these materials, the initiative offers a different way of seeing them—inviting the public to reconsider the resources behind electricity and the value embedded in Taipower’s energy infrastructure.
